Masala box is also known as Anjali box in South Indian homes and masala dhabba or masala dhani in North Indian homes. It has many names in different regions of India, nevertheless it is an integral part of every Indian kitchen. It comes in different shapes, sizes and materials e.g., wood, brass, stainless steel and plastic (which I dislike personally). Masala box is like a jewel box usually consisting of seven (7) containers that sit snugly in a round or a rectangle or square box.
Every home based on the region would have even (7) different ingredients that are critical to creating most dishes. Mine contains a mix of spice powders turmeric, chilli powder, mustard and cumin seeds, split yellow pea, black gram dal and fenugreek seeds.
