In my class I uphold the ancient Hindu belief “Atithi Devo Bhava” which means “guests are equivalent to God”.

My classes are held at my humble home in Te Atatu Peninsula. The five-hour journey with me will give you a glimpse into a real Indian home, culture, tradition, hospitality, sumptuous food and very heartwarming story of why we came to New Zealand and why I started teaching.

This multi-sensory experience is designed to inspire, educate and make you have a newfound love and respect towards food. It’s a great night with friends and a feast for the five senses.

It is a great opportunity to re-ignite your love for spices and learn about healthy Indian vegetarian cooking!  The class aims to transport you to India.

My classes are combination of doing, watching and learning.  Together we will create six dishes followed by a banquet which we will feast together.  You will be surprised as to how much will be there for you take home for your loved ones!

The class sizes are small and intimate maximum eight.  I am very happy to accommodate if you have specific food needs.  Groups welcome, menu is customizable if you have certain dishes you would like to learn then let me know.

What I promise is a rounded experience, action packed five hours with a balanced combination of watching, learning and doing.

Here is a short video on my cooking class.

A special evening

My housemates and I attended Banu's vegan cooking class together. It was a fantastic experience and we learnt so much not just about cooking but also culture and the power of food. Everything was delicious and Banu guided us through everything. Would highly recommend!

A beautiful evening

My partner and I loved attending Banu's cooking class. The food was wonderful, as expected, and we learned much about Indian cuisine and spices. What we did not expect was the soul and intimacy that Banu infused into our time together. Her class was a fragrant blend of humour, morality, and grounded spirituality that drew a smile from me that I have worn since. Thank you, Banu, for shining as you do.

An Authentic Indian Culinary Experience: Cooking with Love and Culture

Namaste,

I had the pleasure of attending Banu's cooking class, and it exceeded all my expectations. From the moment we arrived, we felt like we were part of an authentic Indian cultural experience. My wife was even offered a beautiful traditional sari, which made the evening even more special. Banu shared the origins of Indian cooking, gave us tips, and explained the importance of cooking with love—something I’ve truly taken to heart.

We learned to make puff bread and even got hands-on with rolling and cooking it ourselves. Although most of the cooking was done for us, it allowed us to focus on learning and absorbing everything Banu was teaching. The dining experience was absolutely delightful—delicious, vibrant food with incredible aromas that filled the room.

It was a small group, which made it feel intimate and gave us plenty of time to ask questions. And the best part? We got to take home loads of food and recipes for all the dishes we made!

I highly recommend this class to anyone wanting an authentic, enjoyable, and enriching experience. Thank you to Banu and her husband for their warm hospitality. It was truly a night to remember.

Hope this inspires you to join and experience it yourself!

Namaste,

Food as a hug

What a lovely, warm experience. Banu guided us through making a deliciously spicy feast, sharing tips along the way and sending us home with heaps of leftovers and the recipes for what we made. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere as we learned, ate and listened to Banu's stories. I'll be chasing her up at the markets too.

Very special experience

Banu was such an amazing host. Special welcome into her home was a nice surprise. The journey we went on for the next few hours was more than I could have asked for. Deep dive into the world of spices and how they can transform a dish, even a fun game of what’s that? Banu skilfully guides you through each course as you partake in making each dish. I loved that we then all sit down to share the feast we prepared. There was so much leftovers too so we could enjoy it all again the next day with friends and family.
Banu takes you on a journey of her life and her background all culminating to this moment how she’s sharing her passion with others. A very special lady.

I couldn’t recommend this any more
