In my class I uphold the ancient Hindu belief “Atithi Devo Bhava” which means “guests are equivalent to God”.

My classes are held at my humble home in Te Atatu Peninsula. The five-hour journey with me will give you a glimpse into a real Indian home, culture, tradition, hospitality, sumptuous food and very heartwarming story of why we came to New Zealand and why I started teaching.

This multi-sensory experience is designed to inspire, educate and make you have a newfound love and respect towards food. It’s a great night with friends and a feast for the five senses.

It is a great opportunity to re-ignite your love for spices and learn about healthy Indian vegetarian cooking!  The class aims to transport you to India.

My classes are combination of doing, watching and learning.  Together we will create six dishes followed by a banquet which we will feast together.  You will be surprised as to how much will be there for you take home for your loved ones!

The class sizes are small and intimate maximum eight.  I am very happy to accommodate if you have specific food needs.  Groups welcome, menu is customizable if you have certain dishes you would like to learn then let me know.

What I promise is a rounded experience, action packed five hours with a balanced combination of watching, learning and doing.

Here is a short video on my cooking class.

Food as a hug

What a lovely, warm experience. Banu guided us through making a deliciously spicy feast, sharing tips along the way and sending us home with heaps of leftovers and the recipes for what we made. Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere as we learned, ate and listened to Banu's stories. I'll be chasing her up at the markets too.

Very special experience

Banu was such an amazing host. Special welcome into her home was a nice surprise. The journey we went on for the next few hours was more than I could have asked for. Deep dive into the world of spices and how they can transform a dish, even a fun game of what’s that? Banu skilfully guides you through each course as you partake in making each dish. I loved that we then all sit down to share the feast we prepared. There was so much leftovers too so we could enjoy it all again the next day with friends and family.
Banu takes you on a journey of her life and her background all culminating to this moment how she’s sharing her passion with others. A very special lady.

I couldn’t recommend this any more

Fascinating and delicious

Banu and her husband were gracious, warm hosts of a great evening of culinary and cultural experiences with a friendly small group. There were insights into and stories about recipes, methods and ingredients, plenty of tips - the opportunity to participate in the cooking - and of course the delicious food to eat and take away. Highly recommended!

So much more than just a cooking class!

My second time attending Banu’s cooking class at her home.
I loved the first time with my teenage daughter so much so returned with a group of friends. Enjoyed their hospitality, being immersed in the culture and, of course, the delicious food we all helped prepare.
Everyone in the group loved their evening and learnt a lot about how to prepare the dishes, the culture as well as having lots of laughs.
Thank you Banu!
